According to Croda, children can begin discovering golf as early as 3 to 5 years old — but with an important distinction. At that age, golf should be about exploration and play, not technique.
“The objective is not to create golfers,” he says. “It is to create positive experiences with movement, nature, and curiosity.” Through games and fun activities, children naturally develop coordination, balance, and confidence. And most importantly:
“It’s not about the swing — it’s about the love for the game.”

“They learn through play, imagination, and discovery,” Croda emphasizes.

Croda’s advice is clear: Celebrate effort, not results.
Children should feel the golf course is a place to connect, learn, and enjoy — not a place of judgment.“Parents should support curiosity and confidence, not correct every swing,” he says. Sometimes, the most impactful coaching moment is also the simplest:
“I loved watching you play today.”

Through his books and programs, Croda has worked to fill a major gap in golf instruction: the lack of focus on human development. “Most instruction focuses on performance,” he notes. “But very little attention is given to values, leadership, and character.”

For golf clubs, the opportunity lies in embracing a more inclusive and family-oriented model.
