The 2025 Latin America Amateur Championship (LAAC), organized by the Masters Tournament, The R&A, and the USGA, will enjoy extensive worldwide television coverage. Fans can tune in to the 10th anniversary of the championship, featuring 108 of the best amateur players from the region, from January 16 to 19. Pilar Golf Club in Buenos Aires, Argentina, will host the tournament for the second time, following its debut as the inaugural event venue in 2015.
The championship, played over 72 holes (stroke play), aims to further develop golf in South America, Central America, Mexico, and the Caribbean. ESPN platforms will cover the event in Argentina and throughout Latin America and the United States. Other broadcasters include SuperSport (Africa), Fox Sports (Australia), TSN (Canada), Warner Bros. Discovery Sports (Europe), SBS Sports (South Korea), SPOTV (Southeast Asia), and Sky Sports (United Kingdom). The commentary team will include Rich Lerner as host, Andy North as analyst, Iona Stephen and Steve Burkowski as on-course reporters, and John Sutcliffe conducting interviews. The first and second rounds (Thursday, January 16, and Friday, January 17) will be broadcast live from 3 to 6 p.m. (Argentine time). Coverage of the third round (Saturday, January 18) will air from 1 to 4 p.m., and the final round (Sunday, January 19) will be televised from 12 to 3 p.m.
Participants in the LAAC, hailing from 29 countries and territories in Latin America, will compete for the prestigious title, which, among other benefits, grants an invitation to the Masters Tournament, The Open, and the U.S. Open, provided the champion retains their amateur status.
This year’s field includes 16 players ranked within the top 200 of the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), including Mexico’s Omar Morales (No. 13), Bolivia’s José Luis Montaño (No. 43), Cayman Islands’ Justin Hastings (No. 46), and Brazilians Andrey Xavier (No. 56) and Hérik Machado (No. 58). Morales, a senior at UCLA and recently named a candidate for the Haskins Award, was runner-up last year in Panama. Additionally, Aaron Jarvis, champion of the 2022 Latin America Amateur Championship, will participate for the fifth time.
The Latin America Amateur Championship was created in 2014 (with the first edition held in 2015) as a joint initiative by the Masters Tournament, The R&A, and the USGA. Notable alumni include Colombians Nicolás Echavarría and Sebastián Muñoz; Chileans Joaquín Niemann (2018 LAAC champion), Cristóbal del Solar, and Mito Pereira; and Argentine Alejandro Tosti.
