World No. 7 and Current U.S. Open Champion J.J. Spaun, Along With World No. 13 Ben Griffin, Among the First Players Confirmed for the 2025 World Wide Technology Championship
In its third year in Los Cabos, the event will also welcome Luke Donald, Tony Finau, and defending champion Austin Eckroat
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – LOS CABOS, MEXICO (September 22, 2025) – J.J. Spaun and Ben Griffin, ranked #7 and #13 respectively in the Official World Golf Ranking and members of the U.S. Ryder Cup team competing this week, are among the first confirmed players for the 2025 World Wide Technology Championship, set to take place November 6–9 in Los Cabos, Mexico. Joining Spaun and Griffin in the tournament will be defending champion Austin Eckroat, European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald, and two-time Ryder Cup participant Tony Finau.
“It is an honor for us to welcome and host these great and important players in this year’s field,” said Tournament Director Joe Mazzeo. “We invite all residents of Los Cabos to join us during tournament week to witness a spectacular display of golf and enjoy PGA TOUR action along with all the fun and excitement of this world-class event.”
Spaun has enjoyed an outstanding professional year in 2025, highlighted, of course, by his victory at Oakmont Country Club in the 125th U.S. Open—his first career Major. His season also included a total of seven Top-10 finishes, with runner-up spots at The PLAYERS Championship, the FedEx St. Jude Championship, and the Cognizant Classic.
Griffin, 29, and a World Wide Technology ambassador, earned his first professional wins in 2025 at the Zurich Classic and the Charles Schwab Challenge, propelling him to the best ranking of his career, where he currently remains. In addition, Griffin finished runner-up in 2025 at the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday and at last week’s Procore Championship—both times falling just short to World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler.
Donald has competed in four Ryder Cups and served twice as vice-captain before being named captain in 2022. This week he aims to lead Europe to a second consecutive team victory. Donald, a former World No. 1, has earned 11 victories over his career across the PGA TOUR and DP World Tour.
Also confirmed to return to Los Cabos is six-time PGA TOUR winner Tony Finau, making his first appearance at the WWT Championship since 2022. Continuing the Ryder Cup theme, Finau was a member of the victorious U.S. team in 2021 at Whistling Straits.
Eckroat returns to defend his title, which he captured last year by one stroke, marking his second win of both the season and his PGA TOUR career. The 26-year-old became the second consecutive WWT Championship winner to post a final-round 63. By lifting the iconic Cabo Arch trophy, Eckroat—the “Cabo Kid”—secured his second victory in Los Cabos, having previously won the Cabo Collegiate as an Oklahoma State amateur in 2019.
The PGA TOUR, which showcases the world’s best golfers competing on iconic courses, will bring together 120 players battling over 72 holes of stroke play as part of the FedExCup Season. The tournament will award 500 FedExCup points.
Diamante Cabo San Lucas will once again serve as the host venue for the WWT Championship, the longest-running and most successful PGA TOUR event in Mexico. The host course, El Cardonal, inaugurated in 2014, is the first course designed by TGR Design and Tiger Woods, an 82-time PGA TOUR winner.
All four rounds will be televised and distributed worldwide through the PGA TOUR’s extensive broadcast network, including Golf Channel in the United States and Golf Channel Latin America in Mexico and throughout Latin America. Internationally, PGA TOUR coverage is available in more than 200 countries and territories in 26 languages through 44 broadcast and digital partners.
