Let’s begin with an introduction and some background of the Bolivian Golf Federation
The Bolivian Golf Federation has deep roots — it was founded back in 1941 in La Paz, thanks to the vision of three clubs: La Paz Golf Club, Oruro Golf Club, and Catavi Potosí Golf Club, which actually came from a mining town.
How long have you been president, and what has this journey meant for you?
I’ve had the honor of serving as President for three years, after previously spending four years as Vice President. This journey has been a true source of satisfaction — seeing the game grow in Bolivia, watching more players get involved, and helping bring the country’s clubs closer together.
Golf in Bolivia Today, how would you describe the current state of golf in Bolivia?
Golf in Bolivia is definitely growing and moving forward. In recent years, we’ve achieved milestones that once felt out of reach — winning South American medals, and seeing our players compete in events like the LAAC and the WAL. It’s exciting progress for the sport in our country.
How many golf clubs or courses are active in the country today?
Right now, Bolivia has seven 18-hole courses in full operation and great condition, along with two 9-hole courses that are also active.
What role does golf play compared to other sports in Bolivia?
Like much of South America, football is the main sport here in Bolivia, and with the World Cup coming up, other sports can sometimes take a back seat. But thanks to our recent successes, golf is starting to gain more visibility both in clubs and within the wider community.
Growth and Development
What are your main plans for growing golf in Bolivia over the coming years?
Our plans for growing golf in Bolivia are focused on several key areas. First, we’ll continue the Vuelta a Bolivia Circuit, giving kids and young players the chance to compete in tournaments across the country. We also want to expand our Misioneros de Bolivia program, which helps children from low-income families who aren’t part of private clubs, allowing them to play with the Federation’s support. At the same time, we aim to strengthen the Scratch Tour to provide our amateur players with tougher competition. And, most importantly, in 2027 we’ll host South America’s top amateur tournament, the Copa Los Andes, where our goal is to field the strongest team possible to represent Bolivia as hosts.
What kind of support is provided to young golfers to help them compete internationally?
We make sure our tournaments are recognized by the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), so our young players can earn points and receive invitations to major competitions like the WALA (Women’s Amateur Latin America) and LAAC (Latin America Amateur Championship). It’s all about giving them the opportunities they need to compete internationally.

Are there specific programs or initiatives for women’s golf in Bolivia?
Yes, we have programs to support women in golf. For example, women pay a reduced fee for their handicap registration, and we also actively support their Pre-Senior and Senior associations
Competition and Future Vision
Do you see Bolivia hosting international golf tournaments in the future?
Absolutely. In May 2026, we’ll be hosting the Pre-Junior and Junior Invitational, and in 2027, Bolivia will welcome the Copa Los Andes. We’re excited to bring international competition to our country.
Copa Los Andes, a tournament created in 1942 by the Club de Golf Los Leones in Santiago, Chile. The event is hosted by a different country and golf club each year. The 2025 edition was held at the Guayaquil Country Club in Ecuador. Originally it was a social event, the tournament evolved into a highly competitive championship. The introduction of match play and the demanding 36-hole daily schedule has added to its intensity. In the 2025 Copa Los Andes, the men’s team from Colombia and the women’s team from Peru were crowned champions.
How important are regional and international partnerships for the development of golf in Bolivia?
Regional and international partnerships are absolutely fundamental for developing golf in Bolivia. We receive strong support from The R&A, the South American Golf Federation and its Rules Committee, as well as from the Bolivian Olympic Committee.
Closing and Inspiration
What message would you like to share with Bolivian golfers and the golfing community?
I’d like to share a message of joy and hope. We want to keep improving, close the gap with South America’s stronger golf nations, and most importantly, thank all our golfers for supporting the Federation through their handicap fees and memberships each year.
In just a few words, how do you envision the future of golf in Bolivia in 5 to 10 years?
In the next 5 to 10 years, I see golf in Bolivia continuing to grow and bringing many sporting achievements for our players and our country.

Introducción y antecedentes de la Federación Boliviana de Golf
La Federación Boliviana de Golf tiene raíces profundas: fue fundada en 1941 en La Paz, gracias a la visión de tres clubes: La Paz Golf Club, Oruro Golf Club y Catavi Potosí Golf Club, que en realidad proviene de un pueblo minero.
Pregunta: ¿Cuánto tiempo ha sido presidente y qué ha significado este camino para usted?
Respuesta: He tenido el honor de servir como Presidente durante tres años, después de haber pasado cuatro años como Vicepresidente. Este camino ha sido una verdadera fuente de satisfacción: ver cómo crece el golf en Bolivia, ver a más jugadores involucrarse y ayudar a acercar a los clubes del país.
El golf en Bolivia hoy
Pregunta: ¿Cómo describiría el estado actual del golf en Bolivia?
Respuesta: El golf en Bolivia está definitivamente creciendo y avanzando. En los últimos años, hemos alcanzado hitos que antes parecían inalcanzables: ganar medallas sudamericanas y ver a nuestros jugadores competir en eventos como el LAAC y el WALA. Es un progreso muy emocionante para el deporte en nuestro país.
Pregunta: ¿Cuántos clubes o campos de golf están activos en el país hoy en día?
Respuesta: Actualmente, Bolivia cuenta con siete campos de 18 hoyos en plena operación y en excelentes condiciones, junto con dos campos de 9 hoyos que también están activos.
Pregunta: ¿Qué papel juega el golf comparado con otros deportes en Bolivia?
Respuesta: Como en gran parte de Sudamérica, el fútbol es el deporte principal aquí en Bolivia, y con la Copa del Mundo cerca, otros deportes a veces pasan a un segundo plano. Pero gracias a nuestros recientes éxitos, el golf está empezando a ganar más visibilidad, tanto en los clubes como en la comunidad en general.
Crecimiento y desarrollo
Pregunta: ¿Cuáles son sus principales planes para hacer crecer el golf en Bolivia en los próximos años?
Respuesta: Nuestros planes se centran en varias áreas clave. Primero, continuaremos con el Circuito Vuelta a Bolivia, dando a niños y jóvenes la oportunidad de competir en torneos en todo el país. También queremos expandir nuestro programa Misioneros de Bolivia, que ayuda a niños de familias de bajos recursos que no forman parte de clubes privados, permitiéndoles jugar con el apoyo de la Federación. Al mismo tiempo, buscamos fortalecer el Scratch Tour para brindar a nuestros jugadores amateurs una competencia más exigente. Y, lo más importante, en 2027 seremos sede del principal torneo amateur de Sudamérica, la Copa Los Andes, donde nuestro objetivo es formar el mejor equipo posible para representar a Bolivia como anfitriones.
Pregunta: ¿Qué tipo de apoyo se brinda a los jóvenes golfistas para competir internacionalmente?
Respuesta: Nos aseguramos de que nuestros torneos estén reconocidos por el World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), para que nuestros jóvenes jugadores puedan acumular puntos y recibir invitaciones a competencias importantes como el WALA (Women’s Amateur Latin America) y el LAAC (Latin America Amateur Championship). Respuesta: Sí, tenemos programas para apoyar a las mujeres en el golf. Por ejemplo, ellas pagan una tarifa reducida para el registro de su hándicap, y también apoyamos activamente sus asociaciones Pre-Senior y Senior.
Competencia y visión a futuro
Pregunta: ¿Ve a Bolivia siendo sede de torneos internacionales de golf en el futuro?
Respuesta: Absolutamente. En mayo de 2026 seremos sede del Pre-Junior y Junior Invitational, y en 2027 Bolivia recibirá la Copa Los Andes. Estamos emocionados de traer competencia internacional a nuestro país.
Nota sobre la Copa Los Andes:
Creada en 1942 por el Club de Golf Los Leones en Santiago, Chile, el torneo se realiza cada año en un país y club distinto. La edición 2025 se jugó en el Guayaquil Country Club, Ecuador. Originalmente fue un evento social, pero evolucionó hasta convertirse en un campeonato altamente competitivo. La introducción del match play y la exigente agenda de 36 hoyos diarios aumentaron su intensidad. En la Copa Los Andes 2025, los equipos campeones fueron: hombres de Colombia y mujeres de Perú.
Pregunta: ¿Qué importancia tienen las alianzas regionales e internacionales para el desarrollo del golf en Bolivia?
Respuesta: Las alianzas regionales e internacionales son absolutamente fundamentales. Recibimos un gran apoyo de The R&A, la Federación Sudamericana de Golf y su Comité de Reglas, así como del Comité Olímpico Boliviano.

Pregunta: ¿Qué mensaje le gustaría compartir con los golfistas bolivianos y la comunidad del golf?
Respuesta: Me gustaría compartir un mensaje de alegría y esperanza. Queremos seguir mejorando, reducir la brecha con los países de golf más fuertes de Sudamérica y, lo más importante, agradecer a todos nuestros golfistas por apoyar a la Federación a través de sus tarifas de hándicap y membresías cada año.
Pregunta: En pocas palabras, ¿cómo ve el futuro del golf en Bolivia en 5 a 10 años?
Respuesta: En los próximos 5 a 10 años, veo que el golf en Bolivia seguirá creciendo y trayendo muchos logros deportivos para nuestros jugadores y para el país.
