The 2024 Women’s Amateur Latin America (WALA) will take place at the prestigious Lima Golf Club, which, in addition to celebrating its centenary, will host a powerful and talented field. This edition promises to be a true showcase of the future of women’s golf in Latin America with players from numerous countries across the region.
From November 21 to 24, the top 60 amateur players from 12 countries will compete in the fourth edition of WALA, an event organized by the R&A and the ANNIKA Foundation. Among the most represented nations are Colombia (with 11 players), Argentina (8), Peru and Mexico (7 each), and Chile (6), which continue to lead in developing young talent. South America will also be represented by players from Paraguay, Venezuela, Brazil, and Uruguay. Additionally, players from countries with a lesser golf tradition, such as Guatemala, Barbados, and Bolivia, have confirmed their participation, reinforcing WALA’s mission to promote the sport across all corners of the region.
Alongside their golf achievements, many WALA competitors balance their university studies with their sports careers. More than half of the players at the Lima Golf Club field are studying and competing at U.S. universities, allowing them to develop their game at the highest level while pursuing their studies. This balance strengthens their competitive mindset and contributes to their holistic growth as individuals and athletes. The previous three WALA champions—Valery Plata and Valentina Rossi (Michigan State University) and Ela Anacona (University of Arkansas)—were studying at American universities.
These talented players will compete for the prestigious title and also for the chance to access three of the most important women’s golf tournaments globally. The WALA champion will earn invitations to compete in three Majors in 2025: the AIG Women’s Open, The Amundi Evian Championship, and The Chevron Championship providing her with an unparalleled platform to measure up against the world’s best professional golfers.
