In a time when women are taking the lead across the world of golf, Colombia adds another name to the list: Natalia Arias Echeverry, the newly appointed Executive Director of the Colombian Golf Federation (Fedegolf). Her arrival marks a new chapter, one centered on continuity, inclusion, and competitive growth at all levels of the game.
In an exclusive interview with Golf Americas, Arias shared her strategic priorities for Fedegolf, her commitment to grassroots development and global visibility, and her role as a woman leading one of Latin America’s most respected golf institutions.
Arias brings to the federation a solid background in sports management, public policy, and institutional development. Her focus is not only on maintaining what’s been built, but on taking Colombian golf to the next level.
Among her core strategies is strengthening Colombia’s international projection. That includes forging relationships with global golf organizations, increasing the country’s presence in elite tournaments, and even positioning Colombia as a future host for major international events.
“We want Colombia to be recognized not just as a country that plays golf, but as a serious player on the international stage,” Arias emphasized. “That means better preparation, stronger athlete development, and a professionalized federation that leads by example.”
A key part of this vision is the Centro de Alto Rendimiento (CAR), a state-of-the-art high-performance facility that has become the backbone of Colombia’s competitive development.
“The CAR is more than a training ground,” Arias explains. “It’s a long-term commitment to excellence. It’s where young players turn into elite athletes. We want every region to feel connected to this national project.”
By reinforcing the CAR’s integration with Fedegolf’s junior tours, coaching certifications, and athlete scouting systems, Arias aims to ensure that top-tier golf is no longer limited to a few, but accessible to all who have the talent and discipline to pursue it.
Natalia Arias Echeverry’s appointment is not just a professional milestone, it’s a message to the broader community. In a sport still fighting perceptions of exclusivity, her leadership reflects a growing movement toward equity and openness.
“Leadership must reflect the diversity we want to see on the course,” she said. “I see my role as a bridge, between past and future, between tradition and transformation.”
Through educational alliances, inclusive tournaments, and youth programs across rural and urban regions, Fedegolf aims to democratize access to the game and expand participation across all demographics.
As the first woman to hold this position, Arias knows the importance of representation. But her goals are broader than symbolism. “I want to be remembered for growing the game, not just managing it,” she said. “For expanding opportunities, for opening doors, for showing the world what Colombian golf can become.”
In a special message to young women pursuing careers in golf, whether as players, coaches, or leaders, Arias added: “You don’t have to fit a mold. If you love the game, there is space for you. Make your voice heard. The future of golf is wide open, and it’s yours to shape.”
With a clear vision, bold strategies, and an unwavering commitment to equity and excellence, Natalia Arias Echeverry is not just leading Fedegolf, she’s helping redefine the future of Colombian golf for generations to come.
